Faculty members in the Department of Management were authors three times in premier journals in 2024:
Emily Heaphy, professor and John F. Kennedy Faculty Fellow, published “Hiding in Plain Sight: Co-enacting the sustainable worker schema in a consulting firm” in Organization Science. In the study, Heaphy and her coauthor, Špela Trefalt, looked at consultants who found ways of delivering excellent work while managing work-life boundaries effectively and achieving higher levels of satisfaction with work-life balance than their peers who worked more traditional hours.
Ulya Tsolmon, associate professor, published “The Role of Information in the Gender Gap in the Market for Top Managers: Evidence from a Quasi-Experiment” in Strategic Management Journal. The research examines the role of organizational performance information in bridging the gender gap in the mobility and advancement of top managers.
Michael Blomfield, assistant professor, published “Incentivizing Effort Allocation Through Resource Allocation: Evidence from Scientists’ Response to Changes in Funding Policy” in Organization Science with coauthor Keyvan Vakili. The study develops a formal model to investigate how a worker changes the allocation of a fixed amount of effort across different projects in response to changes in the cost of securing resources for each project.
Plus, Heaphy has been appointed to a three-year term as associate editor of the Academy of Management Journal and Orlando Richard, Earl W. Stafford endowed professor, continues to serve as associate editor of the Journal of Management.
Giuseppe Labianca, Berthiaume chaired professor of leadership, received the 2024 Davis-Dickson award, with G. C. Kane, M. Alavi, and S. P. Borgatti, for the paper with the most impact over the past decade at MIS Quarterly for “What’s different about social media networks? A framework and research agenda.”
